Here we seek to grow.
Here we seek to be courageous allies.
Here we seek to be open and affirming.
Here we seek to honor each other’s story.
Here we seek to welcome each other’s mistakes.
Today we will be receiving our annual special offering to support the logistical and organizational costs of the United Methodist Committee on Relief. UMCOR is a highly respected first responder to domestic and global disaster – both political and environmental. Our offering today allows the gifts we give for each incident to go 100% to that incident.
Our worship series in Lent focuses on the “I AM” statements of Jesus in the Gospel of John. Paradoxically, to our eyes, John appears to be the most “mystical” and “spiritual” of the Gospels. And yet John narrates and celebrates the very flesh and blood of Jesus, as if to say, in Jesus, human and divine meet and are inseparable. Turning our attention to the “I AM” statements in John gives us the opportunity to reflect on this relationship between body and spirit, and to bask in the knowledge that in Jesus, God has definitively signaled the inherent goodness of matter.
